+ = These sites have two compost systems or an alternate manner to handle food scraps not appropriate for vermiculture: a thermal composting system (handles grains and proteins) and a vermiculture system (handles vegetative scraps). Apple Blossom School and the French American School have additional services. They have a vermiculture system and have established food scrap pickup with their waste hauler (North Bay Corporation)- the latter materials are taken to a compost facility in Vacaville- Solano County.

Current thinking (Climate Action Reserve) suggests there is a 2:1 offset (every 2lbs pounds of garbage eliminates 1 lb of carbon from the atmosphere at the landfill) for food scrap composting. This takes into account the garbage itself, hauling, and assumes a landfill operation without methane capture technology.Learn more about  Carbon Credit Programs
